She is one of nearly 2,000 BEST commuters who have already registered for the ‘Gharghuti Ganpati’ contest.
For the first time ever, the private firm that has been granted the contract to install LCD television screens in BEST buses, is holding such a contest.
It’s for the general public who get an idol of Lord Ganesha at home. And it offers them the chance to give people across the city a dekko of the idol.
What’s more is that those who are selected stand the chance of winning a prize for the best idol and decoration.
“Of course, I have already registered and will ensure that I decorate the Ganpati idol at home beautifully,” said Dongre.
Dahisar resident Rajendra Kamat said he has been taking the BEST bus a few times only to know more about the contest. “I get an idol of Ganpati bappa at home every year. This year, I will do my best to get the surprise gift,” said Kamat.
How to participate
“Passengers have to SMS their name to the contact number shown on BEST buses. We will randomly select 150 of the respondents, and our camera crew will visit their homes to do a shooting of the idol,” said Punit Gupta, CEO of the private firm, ESMPL Media.
Gupta claimed they have already received around 2,000 SMSes.
While the last date to receive entries will be four days prior to commencement of the festival, the results will be declared a few days after the eleventh day of immersion.
“Of the 150 selected videos, the best 25 idols will be aired on the TV sets in BEST buses. The best three winning entries will get a surprise gift and there will also be consolation prizes,” said Gupta.
Commuters will be able to participate in the winning entry process. “They will get a chance to select their favourite Ganpati from the videos shown and vote for the best one,” said Gupta.
